Volunteer Administrators' Network Benefits and Guidelines

Benefits
Monthly professional development meetings are generally scheduled on the third Thursday of each month. Guests have the chance to network from 8:30 to 9 a.m. with the workshop following from 9 to 11 a.m.

Membership Card
Your card will provide discounted registrations to conferences and classes (see registration literature for details). In the future, the card may also be used for discounts at a particular business (opportunities will be announced).

Networking
The first ½ hour (8:30 - 9 a.m.) of each meeting is set aside for networking. This is the time to meet other Volunteer Administrators, compare programs and practices, discuss the potential for partnerships, or informally chat about the work we do.

Mentoring
VAN members mentor and assist organizations and corporations develop or enhance a volunteer program.

Professional
Development Workshops

Attendance Certificates
To enable members to count professional development hours for continuing education units, professional portfolios or other needs there are certificates available at the registration table after each meeting. Stop by the table when the meeting is over and the hospitality assistants or membership coordinators can fill out a certificate for you.

Monthly Newsletter
VANtage newsletter gives you specific information on the monthly workshop as well as pertinent articles, updates and announcements.

Involvement
Board and committee involvement is yet another way to build your professional development. At the bottom of your membership form is a list of possibilities of involvement in VAN. This information is compiled and passed on to the appropriate board or VAN member so they can contact you.

Guidelines
Memberships are not transferable. A membership paid for by the individual can travel with the individual from one agency/corporation to another. A membership paid for by the agency or organization remains with the agency or organization and can be picked up and then renewed by a replacement if the original member leaves the organization. Please carefully read the membership types below to see what category you fall into:

Memberships available

Corporate
$60 annually for individuals who work with volunteers in a for-profit corporation.

General
$50 annually for individuals who work with volunteers in a non-profit or government agency

Individuals
$50 annually for individuals who are interested in the field of volunteer administration and want to attend meetings and receive VAN benefits.

Four or More
$40 per person annually for non-profit or government agencies with at least four professionals who manage volunteers. The discounted rate begins with the fourth new member and for each member on subsequent renewals.

Student/Volunteer/Sustaining
$30 annually for a college level student majoring in a relevant field of study, any volunteer currently active in an agency, individuals who have been a member of VAN for at least 5 years, but are no longer employed in the field of Volunteer Administration.
This category is appropriate for retirees or members who have switched careers but still want to stay connected to volunteerism and volunteer administration.

Do you think you may be interested in becoming a member of VAN? You are invited to join us as a guest at a VAN Meeting prior to making a decision. Guests are welcome to attend their first meeting at no cost.
