Join us as we discuss how nonprofit agencies can advocate by engaging volunteers and using grassroots tactics.
As well, learn what nonprofit organization can and cannot do when it comes to advocating for your cause.
Representatives from AARP Ohio, Luke Russell and Kelley Neal, will lead the discussion and include examples of how AARP Ohio has worked with volunteers on advocacy issues.

Presenter Biographies:
Luke Russell
is AARP’s Associate State Director for Advocacy in Ohio. Luke, along with staff and a team of volunteers, works on grassroots advocacy federal and state issues that impact AARP’s 1.6 million member is in Ohio. He began working with AARP in January 2003. Prior to working for AARP, Luke was the Assistant Director of The Arc of Ohio. At The Arc, he worked in an advocacy and administrative role to further inclusion and the rights of individuals with mental retardation and other developmental disabilities. Luke has also worked in a management role for organizations providing mental health and substance abuse treatment services, as well as working for a County Board of Mental Retardation and Developmental Disabilities. Luke has an undergraduate degree from The Ohio State University in political science and communication, and holds a Masters Degree from Ohio University in Health Administration.

Kelley Neal
is a program coordinator at AARP Ohio. She works closely with the Grassroots Advocacy statewide volunteer team. Her primary responsibilities include coordination of campaigns, projects and special events, supporting volunteers in their roles, and coaching volunteers to deepen their impact. Prior to joining AARP in 2000, Kelley worked as a department manager at Stanton’s Sheet Music. She received her Bachelor of Arts degree in music performance from Muskingum College in 1991 and has performed as a soloist, in ensembles and as music director for various groups around the Columbus area including Columbus Light Opera, The Sunbury Singers and The Shepherd Initiative.
