Service Project Background:
Katharine Moore, Executive Director of Amadoll, is very happy we've adopted her charity! The Amadoll Project was formed in 1996 in memory of Katharine's mother who had known uncertain times and sad Christmases as a child. The project collects new dolls (in every shade of the human race!) for less fortunate little girls.
Partner organizations, such as the Southside Learning and Development Center, provide detailed lists that allow the perfect match of dolls to girls; assuring placements that are racially appropriate and parity among sisters.
The Amadoll Project has placed over 1,000 dolls into loving arms. One Somalian child, whose mother died in a refugee camp before the family came to America, had a catalog picture she carried around but had never had a real baby doll. She told her 3rd grade teacher that her Christmas doll was God's reward for how hard she had worked in reading group!
If you would like to donate a doll but are unable to attend the lunch holiday party, please send an e-mail to the address above and a VAN board member will contact you. Thank you!
