Building the Perfect Volunteer and Volunteer Supervisor

When: August 18, 2011
Time: 8:30-10 am
Where: Grange Insurance Audubon Center
Address: 505 W. Whittier St. Columbus, OH  43215
**VAN members are encouraged to bring 1 volunteer from their organization, free of charge, to participate in this workshop.

Join VAN member and presenter, Amy Brown, for this interactive workshop utilizing playdough and your imagination!  Small groups will discuss what characteristics are necessary to create the "ideal" volunteer or volunteer manager.  At the end of this session, participants will: 1) find new ways to show appreciation for their volunteers and realize what they are looking for in their volunteers, and 2) learn what makes a great volunteer supervisor and the interaction and expectations of both volunteers and supervisor.

Speaker bio: Amy Brown has over 15 years of progressive and diverse experience in administrative, human resources, and volunteer management in nonprofit and private companies.  She is currently the Coordinator of Volunteers for the Council for Older Adults in Delaware County where she supervises over 600 volunteers!  Prior to starting at the Council for Older Adults in 2006, Amy worked for the Ohio Historical Society, COSI Columbus, American Heart Association, and the American Red Cross.

Amy has a degree in Business Administration from North Central College.  As a member of VAN for over 10 years, Amy has been very active sitting on the VAN board as Professional Development Chair and helping with both the Conference Committee and Awards Committee.  In addition to her involvement with VAN, Amy keeps busy with numerous professional affiliations, speaking engagements, and personal volunteer experiences.
